Tyler Shultz: More Than a Whistleblower
Monday Jan 31, 2022
Monday Jan 31, 2022
Theranos promised to revolutionize healthcare with a charismatic founder, a boardroom of political titans, and billions in funding. At 22, fresh out of Stanford, Tyler Shultz joined the “Apple of healthcare” as a research engineer—only to discover its groundbreaking blood-testing technology was built on lies. Behind glossy magazine covers and Silicon Valley hype, data was falsified, results fabricated, and dissent silenced. Undeterred by threats from leadership, Tyler escalated concerns to executives, board members, and ultimately regulators, risking his career to become a key whistleblower in The Wall Street Journal’s exposé of one of history’s largest corporate frauds.
Today, Tyler is redeeming Theranos’ failed vision. As co-founder of two diagnostics ventures—Flux Biosciences, a Stanford spinout reimagining lab-on-a-chip technology, and The Healthyr Company, a direct-to-consumer blood-testing service—he’s delivering the real healthcare revolution: accurate, accessible tools that empower patients. Globally, he speaks on turning ethics into a competitive edge, advising startups and Fortune 500s alike to build transparency into their DNA.
In This Episode, Tyler pulls back the curtain on Theranos’ collapse: the cult-like culture, confronting Elizabeth Holmes, and the moment he realized $9B empires can crumble. He also shares how betrayal forged his mission to fix Silicon Valley—proving integrity and innovation aren’t just compatible, they’re inseparable.
